Abstract:
Abstract Telecommunications markets worldwide have changed radically since 1990s thanks to rapid globalization and advances in technology. Standards are the foundation of the new global technology economy. The growth and success of the global information and communication technology (ICT) industry is based on the development and use of standards and the subsequent “royalty fees” derived from the intellectual properties attached to these standards. Leadership in telecommunications equipment and services has for years come from the United States and Europe. However, the most rapid telecom/data network build-outs are now occurring in East Asia, including China, Japan, and South Korea.
