Demographics—an Underlying Force for Change

Richard Donkin

Chapter Chapter 2 in The Future of Work, 2010, pp 41-55 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Who would have thought in the dark days of the late 1980s as AIDS ran rampant through gay communities all over the world that the new century would introduce an era of prosperity and unprecedented freedom for gay people that is helping to enrich the lives of those around them? Richard Florida, a creative consultant and author of Who’s Your City? How the Creative Economy is Making Where You Live the Most Important Decision of Your Life, has identified pockets of creativity and prosperity in a number of US cities that he attributes to the magnetism of gay, artistic and bohemian living in attracting relatively high-earning, creative people.
