Abstract:
Abstract The lifeblood of many businesses is their innovation pipeline, creating new products and services that offer benefits over the competition. Innovation can be both incremental — improving the efficiency of a process, or adding marginal benefits to a product — or breakthrough — creating a whole new product or service category. Breakthrough innovation is particularly critical for industries such as pharmaceuticals, creating new drugs, or in information technology, with products offering different combinations of services, such as internet enabled mobile phones that also play media. Incremental innovation is seen more frequently in fast-moving consumer goods such as food and beverage and household products.
