Abstract Since the very beginning, the idea of a social contract has been closely connected with reflection on the problems related to the functioning of society. Therefore, the idea has been referred to occasionally in the hope of, generally speaking, possibly solving the basic problem of humankind: that concerning the right (according to some) or the optimal (as others imagined) way for society to function.
