Abstract: Abstract There can be little doubt that, since the mid-1990s, the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have done a great deal, both to highlight the impact of the corporate sector on wider social, environmental and ethical issues, and to prompt corporate action on these issues. While it would be too much to say that NGOs gave birth to the corporate responsibility movement, since the mid-1990s, they have most certainly acted as the midwives of the process.
