The Future of Britain’s Motorsport Industry: National Pride Before a Fall?

Martin Beck-Burridge and Jeremy Walton

Chapter 14 in Britain’s Winning Formula, 2000, pp 252-262 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The world of international motor racing is arguably one of the most intensively competitive fields of human activity and not just for the drivers. The level of technology, management expertise, team working and integration of different technologies is probably paralleled only by the aerospace industry. The industry’s technological expertise also feeds the global car industry and the mass manufacturing organizations, providing them with services they apparently cannot replicate. The industry has an extraordinary level of international competitiveness and is probably the only industry in which Britain leads the world.
