A Reassessment of Risk Assessment
Mark Jablonowski
Chapter 5 in Risk Dilemmas, 2007, pp 68-80 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In the analysis of high-stakes risk, as in the case of statistical risk, the distinction between risk assessment and risk management is important. Risk assessment involves identifying the probability/consequence characteristics of loss or what we have considered the primary drivers of what we consider “risky”. Using this data to make decisions is what risk management is all about. How we use this information in the context of decision can, however, influence how and what data are collected.
