Can Workplace Deviance Be Constructive?

Bella L. Galperin

Chapter 9 in Misbehaviour and Dysfunctional Attitudes in Organizations, 2003, pp 154-170 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Workplace deviance and misbehaviour are becoming an increasingly important issue for organizations. The prevalence of destructive and harmful behaviours is surprisingly common in the workplace. Approximately 70 per cent of employees have engaged in some form of deviant behaviour, such as losing their temper at work (Bennett and Robinson, 2000). Furthermore, it is estimated that annually more than two million people become victims of work-related crimes (Kondrasuk, Moore and Wang, 2001).
