Committee and Particularly Market Competition in the Mobile Phone Market
Jeffrey L. Funk
Chapter 5 in Global Competition Between and Within Standards, 2002, pp 145-205 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter describes the role of committee- and market-based competition in the mobile phone market. As in the mobile infrastructure market, firms need to participate in committees in order to understand the standards and to develop products that are based on the standard. And to some extent firms compete to have their technology included in the standard and earn licensing fees while they simultaneously use their superior knowledge of this specific technology to develop superior products.
