Abstract: Abstract Materials International is an industrial firm supplying the construction and automotive industries. It has a long history of introducing new versions of its core products, based on world-class in-house R&D developments and a strong intellectual property portfolio. Faced with both a crisis affecting its main customers and the emergence of new competitors from Asia, it decided a few years ago to focus its strategies on innovation. It quickly realized that in-house R&D was not enough as a source of innovations and decided to launch a wide range of bottom-up and top-down initiatives aimed at identifying innovation opportunities. The main initiatives are described below.
