Abstract:
Abstract The intention of this project by the French Institute Pondicherry (http://www.ifpindia.org/histatlas/) is to prepare a historical atlas of South India, from pre-historic times to 1600 CE, in digital format, through a combination of maps, photographs, illustrations, texts and geographical information system (GIS) functionalities. The challenge was tofocus on relatively marginal localities in a sub-region of the present day linguistically unified state of Andhra Pradesh, which has historically been called Telangana (Reddy 1998).
