Abstract: Abstract Among the profound evolutions in development economics in recent decades has been the renewed interest in, and growing contributions on, the role of financial systems in economic development. While it is clear that a positive effect exists between financial depth and economic growth, the questions of what determines financial development and how to develop financial markets remain imperfectly understood.
