Abstract: Abstract Our fascination with oil is well-founded. Oil is now intertwined into our economy, our livelihood, and, increasingly, in our precarious energy future. The natural history of oil punctuates the earth’s natural history, dating back to an era not unlike our own — one of rising carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
