Gender Equality and the Shift from Collegiality to Managerialism
Anita Göransson
Chapter 2 in Gender, Power and Management, 2011, pp 50-77 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides an overview of HE systems and then analyses the gendered character of academic staff in the eight countries in this study. It also explores the uneven shift from the traditional collegial to a new managerialist organisational form. There is no indication that either the collegial or the managerial system would be more conducive to gender equality. It is clear that the strength or absence of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action frameworks, as described in Chapter 1, has an impact on gender equality in universities.
