Abstract:
Abstract For roughly three decades after the creation of the IMF in 1944, issues related to the international monetary system focused on exchange rate policies, international reserve management, and balance of payment positions of the major industrial countries. With financial globalization and increased cross-border capital flows and crises in emerging markets (see Chapter 1), the attention of academics and policymakers has shifted to crisis prevention and crisis management. The subject of “international monetary reform” has now been renamed “international financial architecture reform (IFA)” by most writers on the subject.
