The Schroders’ Story of the 1980s

Paul Jowett and Francoise Jowett

Chapter 8 in Private Equity, 2011, pp 159-177 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Without doubt, the success story of the 1980s was Schroder Ventures. From the small beginnings of the Jofrica deal, Schroders stunned much of the German establishment with the purchase, and then rapid IPO, of Ex-Cell-O. Thomas Matzen found himself featured in manager magazin under the title “The King-maker” for having made the CEO of Ex-Cell-O a rich man.
