Chapter 17 in E-Shock 2020, 2011, pp 147-150 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract According to the US National Science Foundation, the number of internet users, further enabled by mobile access, will rise from the present 1.7 billion to 5 billion by 2020. That would suggest that the vast majority of households in the world will have some form of internet connection. All this predicted growth is also generating a lot of digital data. Perhaps slightly disturbingly, the amount of data and content that will need to be stored and processed is growing exponentially.
