Abstract:
Abstract Wilfred Salter was born on 27 March 1929 at Cottesloe, Perth, the eldest of three children of Harold Peter Salter, health inspector and May, née Dunderdale, a music teacher. Salter was educated at Wesley College (1942–46) and the University of Western Australia (1948–52), obtaining first class honours in 1953. He represented the University at rugby union football. He married Moira Joan Burke, a welfare officer, on 5 December 1952. They had two children, a son and a daughter.
