Chapter 8 in The China-Latin America Axis, 2012, pp 131-135 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract These words from Martin Wolf, associate editor and chief economic commentator at the Financial Times, seem to summarise what is going on in the world; evidence of these movements has been shown and analysed in the previous chapters. The analysis of China–Latin America in this work was carried out within this context. The book presented first (Chapter 2) China–Latin America in the context of the growing importance of emerging markets in the international marketplace. It continued (Chapter 3) by analysing in detail the trade and investment relations between the two regions while providing a historical context. Chapter 4 then took a political perspective and studied the rivalry–partnership relation between China and Latin America with a focus on what they are expecting to get from this engagement. Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 presented the main characteristics of the companies from each region. And finally Chapter 7 showed an outsider’s view by analysing the perspectives of the United States and the EU.
