Striving for power
Adrian Furnham
A chapter in The Talented Manager, 2012, pp 207-209 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract There are many interesting but complicated theories of work motivation; partly because it is a fascinating and complex problem. We all know powerfully motivated people: the pathologically ambitious; the selfishly greedy; and the pathetic prize-seekers. They seem particularly goal-directed and obsessed about getting something, be it as intangible as respect and admiration or as concrete as their own private island or jet plane.
