Chapter 3 in Firms and Industrial Organization in Japan, 1996, pp 41-57 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Japanese phrase chusho kigyo (small- and medium-sized enterprises or small business, hereafter small business) rings heavy and serious for Japanese, especially for social science scholars. At any given time, however, the images brought to mind by the phrase have varied widely, and the dominant image among them has also varied greatly over time.
