Abstract: Abstract Crosland’s socialism is about equality of opportunity, equality of outcome, economic growth, the ownership of productive resources, the regulation of economic activities. Crosland’s socialism is made up of five key concepts, five strands in a skein. Five central characteristics in turn mark out that skein as distinctive, a whole in excess of the sum of its strands. Those five dimensions of Crosland’s methodology and approach - caution, multidisciplinarity, systematisation, pragmatism, hope above all - conclude this book with a reminder that Crosland’s socialism is a playing-field for intellectualm discourse just as much as it is a specified set of objectives and goals. First, caution.
