Abstract Government-industry relations are a crucial element in fostering industrial and international competitiveness. The rapid rate at which new technologies are simultaneously promoting and undermining existing industries, allied to the international restructuring process, has led to the recognition that good government-industry relations are essential for a smooth process of transition.
