Abstract: Abstract The retail trade is one of the largest and most labour-intensive sectors of the economy. In the European Union it employs around 14 million people, or more than 9 per cent of the gainfully employed population (Jany-Catrice and Lehndorff, 2004). In France this sector accounts for 8.8 per cent of total employment.1
