Outsourcing Information Technology and Managing IT Operational Risks

Dimitris N. Chorafas

Chapter 8 in Outsourcing, Insourcing and IT for Enterprise Management, 2003, pp 166-188 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract A great deal of the flexibility in R&D, A&D and manufacturing, as well as of the ability to control outsourcing agreements discussed in Chapters 6 and 7, is the direct result of an able usage of information technology. But like any other product or process, information technology has also its risks, most particularly operational-type risks – the theme of this chapter. Operational risk due to IT and risks related to outsourcing activities correlate with and impact upon one another. First, however, the good news.
