Abstract:
Abstract The period from the end of the Second World War can be called the ‘age of international development’. Initial emphasis on the reconstruction of Europe through the Marshall Plan was quickly transformed into a bold, new political campaign on a global scale. Its stated aim was to make ‘the benefits of (Western) scientific advances and industrial progress available for the improvement and growth of underdeveloped areas’.1
