Chapter 8 in Corporate Germany between Globalization and Regional Place Dependence, 2001, pp 190-205 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Having repeatedly abstracted from the concrete and theorized the processes and mechanisms identified in the preceding chapters, I will now go a step further and critically refine the discussion in Chapters 2 and 3 in the light of the empirical findings. In order to be able to do this, I believe, it is necessary to rethink the basic propositions and assumptions underlying and guiding empirical analysis, reconnecting what has been artificially separated. This concerns the two inter-related analytical dichotomies at the heart of this book, namely the conceptual distinction between the economic and non-economic, and the relationship between social and spatial processes.
