Chapter Chapter One in The Road to Audacity, 2003, pp 6-21 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract As we write this book (March 2003), our country is at war, and no one knows how it will end. A deadly new virus is gripping the peoples of Asia and other places, with no known cure. The world’s leading stock markets have fallen by over 40 per cent in the last two years. Recently, one of the country’s leading economists explained that he could not see where significant improvements would come from in the next two years. Changes in the world’s climate continue to alarm many scientists. (By the time you read this book, you will know perhaps how one or two things turned out, but you will also be deep in a new set of uncertainties.) These, one might fairly say, are uncertain times.
