Existing Structures in the Economy Determine the Limits of Growth

Mats Larsson

Chapter 18 in The Limits of Business Development and Economic Growth, 2004, pp 191-199 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In order to exploit the opportunities embedded in the discovery of secondary qualities, we probably need a movement in society similar to the one that spurred our awareness of environmental issues. In the next field of development that we will look into, there is already an existing small movement among economists that drives the exploration of new growth opportunities. I am totally indebted to Professor Bernard Lietaer for the reasoning and the examples in this part of the book. It is important to show that a number of tried and tested solutions to economic development exist, even though I am not an expert in the field. I can only recount the very interesting and inspiring work of Lietaer as it is presented in his book The Future of Money.28
