Osaka and Tokyo

Carl Mosk () and Terry McGee

Chapter 8 in The Japanese Business and Economic System, 2001, pp 180-224 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter I wish to argue two points: the first concerns the role played by great metropolitan centres such as Osaka and Tokyo as engines of Japanese economic development; and the second involves the shift from an Osaka-centred economy to a Tokyo-centred economy, a shift that occurred between the two world wars.
