An Overview of the Global Pharmaceutical Industry
Bianca Piachaud
Chapter 1 in Outsourcing of R&D in the Pharmaceutical Industry, 2004, pp 5-33 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The global pharmaceutical industry is a dynamic industry, one which has evolved rapidly over the last century, and is one that is still undergoing considerable transformation through advances in science and technology. It is therefore appropriate that any analysis of the industry must begin by providing an overview of the workings of the pharmaceutical industry in general rather than to provide a snapshot of the industry at a particular point in time. In this way, the most salient features of the industry may be highlighted.
