Technological Functions and Their Organization

Chapter 8 in Technology and Skills in Zimbabwe’s Manufacturing, 2000, pp 74-86 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The existence of codified information and well-defined technical functions within a plant could be construed as an indication of technological maturity. However, as indicated in prior chapters, size of firm strongly influences the ability to define and to assign these functions within the establishment. In this chapter we examine the existence of technical documentation and technical offices in the plants visited, followed by a review of the practices related to organized technical change at the product and process level, the use of support services, and training.
