Chapter Chapter 20 in Inside Knowledge, 2005, pp 207-223 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Asia is home to crazes and fashions that take off nowhere else. It’s important to be acquainted with them if one is to truly know Asia — they are of interest to large segments of the region’s population. Huge resources are devoted to these otherwise obscure markets. Here is a selection of a few from fish to food to furniture. And then there are the movies, high on drama, low on character development, to match the region’s love of spectacle and ornamentation.
