What is Stress?

Jane Cranwell-Ward and Alyssa Abbey

Chapter 3 in Organizational Stress, 2005, pp 27-38 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Stress is not a new issue but the past few years have seen an unprecedented growth in stress awareness, making the problem of stress appear greater than it was ten years ago. Today there is a general acceptance of stress as a problem that needs to be tackled urgently. Although the exact link between stress and illness is not fully understood, there is a wide acceptance of a connection between the two.
