Chapter 6 in Latin America, 2002, pp 106-134 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) under the World Trade Organization (WTO) marked its fifth year of operation in January 2000. This important millennium date provides a nice benchmark from which to evaluate what has been accomplished by Latin America and the Caribbean with respect to the liberalization of trade in services at the multilateral level, both during and since the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations (1986–94), and in particular to examine what role countries of the region have played in the services area.
