Abstract:
Abstract Statements like this are rather common in works on the organization that mix real facts based on anecdotal business evidence and case studies with conceptual and theoretical insights. It is our opinion that this popular approach though fruitful, suffers from a serious methodological weakness in that it fails to provide a generalizable framework for the study of organizational design. In fact, its conclusions are limited by some general caveats.
