Chapter 8 in Quantitative Approaches to Multidimensional Poverty Measurement, 2008, pp 135-154 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The concept of poverty is elusive. On the one hand, poverty is a politically and psychologically loaded concept. It has been the subject of novels and also of many scientific studies. On the other hand, there is no straightforward definition of the concept and no generally accepted method of measurement. This makes it difficult to use the concept of poverty in the political debate on poverty reduction, which after all requires quantitative data.
