The Next Tsunami: Mainland Chinese Tourists
Michael Backman
Chapter 21 in Asia Future Shock, 2008, pp 147-152 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract One of the most extraordinary demographic changes underway in Asia relates not to birth rates, longevity, or gender but simply to mobility. It wasn’t long ago that most mainland Chinese effectively were banned from leaving China even if they had the means to travel. Now millions are temporarily outside China at any one time. And in years to come, millions more will be.
