Seven Paths to Happiness: Doing Business in South-East Asia

Ian Rae and Morgen Witzel

Chapter 10 in The Overseas Chinese of South East Asia, 2008, pp 135-145 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Western businesspeople travelling to South-East Asia or preparing to work with South-East Asian business partners for the first time often make one of two mistakes. The first is to assume that the business culture they are entering will be just like their own, and the same rules, methods, procedures and ways of doing things will apply. The second is to assume the opposite, that the business culture they are entering is entirely alien and foreign, and nothing will look remotely familiar.
