Abstract:
Abstract During the second half of the twentieth century, there has been a shift from the functional organization to the project-based organization (e.g. Prencipe and Tell, 2001). This shift has been caused by the changing nature of work from mass production, with essentially stable customer requirements and slowly changing technology, to the current situation in which every product supplied may be against a bespoke design, and technology changes continuously and rapidly (Turner and Keegan, 1999). In that sense, project-based work is a part of the wave of ‘new organizational forms’ that has entered most industries during the past two decades (Kerfoot and Knights, 1998; Packendorff, 2002).
