Standardization Battles in OSS

Huibert Vries, Henk Vries and Ilan Oshri

Chapter 4 in Standards Battles in Open Source Software, 2008, pp 35-46 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The current literature does not provide a framework that integrates the two domains, open source software (OSS) and standards-setting, in relation to the establishment of a dominant standard. This study aims to address this gap by constructing a framework that comprises a visualization and integration of the two domains and the three phases (development, product/standard and acceptance) of a product’s route to becoming the dominant standard. The three phases will be further introduced below.
