Abstract: Abstract The Asian crisis of 1997 has already had powerful national, regional and global consequences. At the present time, three years later, regional recovery is well underway although the possibility of an aftershock cannot be entirely ruled out. Yet the crisis caused more disruption in the East Asian region than any other economic event of the past 50 years.
