A chapter in Modeling Pension Systems, 2003, pp 1-3 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This study is devoted to a formal analysis of pension systems. For simplicity, it concentrates on old-age pensions, which ensure financial support during a period when most people lose much of their earning capacity. It excludes consideration of the important issue of disability and survivors’ pensions, which require separate treatment. As explained in the preface, this book surveys pension models. Its structure is simple. Part I deals with the microeconomics of pension systems; Part II covers macroeconomic relations; and Part III is devoted to the consideration of special problems. We assume that the reader has at least some familiarity with the basic concepts of pension systems.
