Chapter 1 in The Associative Economy, 2000, pp 1-21 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this introductory chapter is to pose the problems of the evolving relationship between social protection and social integration, which deserves to be considered as the ‘critical point’ of the crisis of the experience of the Welfare State, as commonly debated today. This evolving relationship is considered as a starting point for all our analysis into the ‘future’ of the Welfare State at the conclusion of this century.
