Chapter 2 in A Rice Village Saga, 2000, pp 22-44 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to develop a historical overview on economic and social changes in East Laguna Village. Subsequent chapters will present detailed accounts of the influences of major modernizing forces, such as population growth, technological change and urbanization. In this chapter a chronologica summary of those major events in East Laguna Village is advanced. It intends to facilitate readers’ understanding of the interrelationships in a historical sequence of factors that will be analyzed separately later. It must be cautioned that readers will find several descriptions in this chapter to be reiterated in the subsequent chapters; such repetition is inevitable because of the nature of this chapter serving as a summary of the whole volume.
