Chapter 16 in Reforming Britain’s Economic and Financial Policy, 2002, pp 280-298 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter looks at government debt management objectives and policy in the UK. The aim is to provide a brief assessment of the main theoretical motivations for debt management, and compare them with debt management policy. The conclusion is that current research has provided some useful insights into debt management policy. However, it does not yet offer strong guidance as to the composition of the optimal portfolio. Further research is needed, particularly with respect to the nature of the risks faced by the government.
