Argentina’s Economy in a Long-Term View

Daniel Chudnovsky and Andrés López

Chapter Chapter 2 in The Elusive Quest for Growth in Argentina, 2007, pp 17-31 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Until World War I, Argentina enjoyed a great economic expansion based largely on its exports of agricultural products. The country took advantage of trade opportunities opened by the growing demand of these products in industrialized countries, especially in Great Britain, a fact that was also helped by some key innovations in maritime transport and refrigeration techniques that allowed exporting chilled and canned meat to Europe.
