Population

David Goalstone

Chapter 3 in Macrofoundations of Political Economy and Development, 2007, pp 25-33 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The population booms of antiquity were driven by the improved capacity to feed larger numbers and support diversification in the division of labor. In recent centuries a new element has come into the picture. The discovery of simply health interventions lead to a drastic decline in death rates. The potential of a population boom was magnified into a population explosion.
