A chapter in The State Economic Handbook 2008 Edition, 2007, pp 45-49 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. With a population of 17.4 million people, Florida was the fourth most populous state in the United States in 2005. From 2000 to 2005 the state’s population increased by 1.4 million people, and is projected to increase to 25.9 million by 2025. This 2.0 percent projected annual growth rate is double the projected national average. In 2005 Florida had a per capita personal income of $34,099, which was $396 below the national average and the twentieth highest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at an average annual rate of 3.6 percent from 2000 to 2005, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
