Abstract:
Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. Massachusetts is located in the New England region of the United States and has a population of 6.2 million people, making it the thirteenth most populous state in 2005. The state’s population decreased by 166,237 people from 2000 to 2005, but is projected to increase to 6.9 million by 2025. This 0.6 percent projected annual growth rate is below the national average of 1.0 percent. Per capita personal income in Massachusetts was $43,702 in 2005, ranking the third highest in the country and $9,207 above the national average. From 2000 to 2005 per capita income in the state grew at an average annual rate of 3.0 percent, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
